Anyone interested in going on a mission MUST REGISTER  and receive confirmation as being an accepted participant. 

Required Medications: 
  • Tetanus Booster within the last 2 years
  • Hepatitis A&B Vaccines
  • Malaria Medications (Malarone is suggested.)

Cost of Trip: 
  • Airfare plus $1000. (The $1000 for housing and meals paid to MMDR will be considered a charitable contribution for income tax purposes.)
  • Approximately $100 for personal use. (Personal spending will be for purchasing snacks and paying for the occasional lunch eaten at a restaurant. $100 is an approximate figure. Typically participants use less.)

Participants are responsible for making their own flight arrangements through American Airlines on the same flight with the Mission Team.

Housing: 
  • Gated house
  • Cooks
  • Non air-conditioned
  • Separate women’s and men’s bedrooms (dormatory style)
  • Safe drinking water
  • Showers
  • Hot & cold running water
  • 120 volt American‐style electrical plugs
  • Internet access
  • Bedding consisting of thin mattresses on cots or floor

Pre-Trip Requirements
  • After you've received confirmation of team placement, make appropriate flight arrangements.  Send AA Record Locator to info@mmdr.org.
  • Return signed copy of MMDR Liability Release Form to MMDR office (may be scanned and emailed to info@mmdr.org).
  • Mail $1000 check to MMDR office for Mission Expenses
  • Get all vaccinations & Malaria medications
  • Attend Team Meeting in the week before departure, or make arrangements to get the information given.

In-Country Transportation: 
  • Pick‐Up Trucks - Team members at times may be riding in the back of these trucks, exposed to sun/rain/etc.

Meals: 
  • Breakfast and dinner will be served. Team members will provide their own lunch which may consist of snacks such as power/granola bars, peanut butter crackers, etc.  

Cell Service: 
  • Team members should contact their cellular provider to ensure international access. Some providers will negotiate an “aid‐worker rate”.

Advisory: 
  • Be aware that Haiti is inherently dangerous. The safety of team members cannot be assured. It is also extremely hot and humid. Health risks abound and all members are responsible for their own health. We advise you to see a doctor to make sure that you are healthy enough to work in extreme conditions.

  • Pack all items in closed baggies
  • Passport (must have minimum 6 months from date of entry until expiration)
  • Close-toed shoes (comfortable)
  • Shower Shoes
  • 1 pr. pants/day (Long shorts [to the knee] are ok. Scrubs are fine.) 
  • 1 shirt/day
  • Clothes to wear around the house in the evenings (It’s still hot!)
  • Multiple bras/underwear
  • Sleeping clothes to be in room with others 
  • Mosquito Netting for beds/ Bug Hut for sleeping outside 
  •   Sleeping Bag/Air Mattress for sleeping on floor -or- sheets if sleeping on a bed  
  • Small Fan: ac/dc (bring extra batteries)
  • Nyalgene bottle
  • Fanny pack
  • Camera and charger
  • Phone and charger
  • Flashlight
  • Pepto Bismol tablets (2/day)
  • Shampoo, soap, deodorant, powder, toothbrush, toothpaste, hair brush & clips
  • Towel (quick dry)
  • Deet (90% plus)
  • Hand Sanitizer & hand/body wipes
  • Sun Screen
  • Sunglasses
  • Hat
  • Watch
  • Money Belt
  • Snacks for lunches (granola bars, power bars, peanut butter crackers…bring plenty)
  • Gatorade/Propel powder
  • Bible & Journal
No need for:
  • Much make-up
  • Large suitcases
  • Jewelry 
  • Hair dryers and electric curlers are NOT ALLOWED as they require too much electricity  
Optional Items:

  • Ear plugs (if snoring bothers you)
